If I were to say to you where would you buy some good vodka what would you say? Russia right? Wrong… Tasmania, yep that wee small isle state of Australia.
The ABC News Online has reported that the newly opened distillery, The Tamar Distillery; has sent some consignment “grog” to the Russians and they love the stuff and are considering a long term contract for more. The distillery is hoping to produce 200, 000 bottles a year, some of which will go to the Russians.
Apparently the Russian market is very “sophisticated” and the attraction is the quality of the alcohol and the Tasmanian spring water used. Personally I don’t think that anyone would give a damn after about four where the water came from or the alcohol! But hey if it keeps the Russians happy then great, it also proves that the Australian market is capable of competition on a global scale, good on em.
